Bio

The Peace was borne in the orange auburn purple and indisputably green mountains of Vermont back in Late 2007/Early 2008. Basically, Bobby Peace played a lil’ show ’round town and a really handsome and physically attractive fellow named Bob Campbell saw the show and proclaimed atop a mountain, ‘This man needs a drummer!’ Well, who knows who heard this definitive declaration but, when the cards lay, drums were now in the mix.

At their first rehearsal/meeting, they went over some pretty ol’ school Peace tunes like ‘Arizona Charlie,’ ‘Panama Girl,’ and ‘The 90s.’ The next step was putting a little low end in the mix and Mr Campbell knew the perfect gentleman.

Bill Comstock, Jr was son of a local performing legend in the Green Mountain State and had some pretty serious stand up bass chops himself. He sat in with the still-unnamed band and they recorded a gem of a tape called ‘Invisible Audience.’ This tape is floating around the streets of Queens, NY, somewhere to this day – we’re really not too sure :-)

At any rate, the sound was good and the vibe was better. The band, now called The Peace (3Peace was the other suggestion), soon began gigging around Rutland, Vermont, where they all more or less resided. They did a show at a local yoga studio, a gritty bar downtown and probably a few farmers markets though we can’t entirely remember :-) maybe we all ate too much granola that day……………….

Bill went off to school and Bob & Bobby did the acoustic duo thang Winter 2008/2009, playing at times eight shows per week at all the ski resorts and lodges in the states, with some cafe shows in between. Needless to say, with songs like ‘Welcome To Vermont,’ ‘Springfield (Simpsons Tribute),’ and ‘Free,’ the band began to garner a little bit of a following in the EAT MORE KALE state…….. It’s worth noting that there were several bass players who spent time doing shows with the band as time marched on. Marc Latzky, a local Vermonter who is kind of like The Dude but a little more ‘NPR’ did a phenomenal job as well as Harold Vance III, who to this day, remains one of Bobby’s closest friends. In short, they all had fun.

Come June 2009, Bobby headed down to NY state after finishing up what is now called the Ready To Live mixtape with famed producer Aaron Katz in the White Mountains of New Hampshire (Dover, to be precise). He had begun work on a record label with a friend from Connecticut and, after performing extensively Winter season past in VT, figured it was time to head South (at least a little bit!).

From 2009 – 2010 The Peace did infrequent shows – they did a few stellar collegiate performances (planting the seeds for what looks to be a trend), some local NYC gigs and scattered appearances here and there. A keen observer might record: it was a time of change. The band’s lineup during this period was Bobby Peace on Guitar/Vox; Bob Campbell on Drums/Percussion/Vox; Kel Skate on Bass Guitar/Percussion/Vox. Notable highlights include a successful run in Chicago and Western Illinois, a triumph at Arlene’s Grocery in Downtown Manhattan and spiritual growth amongst all three men.

Fast forward Summer 2010: Bobby splits with the label he helped create due to creative differences. Mr Peace spends the year in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, crafting his own record label, Humble Records, and partners with New York University’s Internship Program, networks with some of New York’s best and brightest musicians, and hosts a chic open mike at a trendy Clinton Hill, Brooklyn establishment which sees the likes of French musician ‘Lull’ and the Chappelle’s show’s Catfish Turner. All in all, it was a banner year.

After New York’s labor, Bobby set out to enjoy the fruits, in the form of a Summer 2011 move to the MidWest, eventually settling in Iowa City, IA, UNESCO’s 3rd City of Literature.

So, what’s up with The Peace, you might ask?

Well, that’s a great question. Bobby continues to do solo shows locally and the entire team at Humble Records is working hard to get those classic jams like ‘Free,’ ‘The 90s,’ ‘Already All Right,’ and ‘This Is Life’ on television and in film. There’s also been a renewed focus on college performances and radio promotion, all with the subdued intention of allowing other family artists to tap into those resources at a later point in time.

It does feel like The Peace will be on the road once again very soon. Colleges, festivals and benefit shows are starting to come to us and it feels good! Will the lineup be the one of old? Maybe not, but either way, we’re excited to bring positivity, energy, peace and love to musical audiences far and wide.

‘Til then, thanks for ‘keeping the peace.’

Your Fam,

Humble Records
